How to Care for Children's Clothes: A Practical Guide for Parents

Children's clothes go through far more than adult clothing — mud, paint, food, grass and countless other daily adventures. With the right care, you can significantly extend the life of favourite pieces and save money in the long run.

Always Read the Label

The first and most important step: read the care label before the first wash. The symbols on the label tell you exactly what temperature to wash at, whether you can use a dryer and how to iron the piece.

Recommended Washing Temperatures

  • 30°C — for most coloured clothes, delicate fabrics, wool, softshell
  • 40°C — for white cotton and resistant light colours
  • 60°C — only for underwear and socks, not regular clothes

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Tumble drying everything — excessive heat shrinks fabrics and causes fading. Air dry whenever possible.
  2. Fabric softener on softshell — destroys the waterproof properties of technical materials
  3. Washing at too high temperatures — causes fading and distorts shape
  4. Overloading the machine — clothes don't wash properly and crease more

Stain Removal

  • Mud — let dry completely, then shake and brush before washing
  • Grass — apply liquid detergent directly to the stain before washing
  • Greasy food — talcum powder or bicarbonate of soda absorbs grease before washing
  • Paint — act quickly with cold water, not hot

Correct Storage

Clothes not being worn in the current season should be cleaned before storage — invisible stains oxidise over time and become permanent. Delicate pieces (party dresses, coats) should be kept on hangers.

When to Replace a Piece

A well-cared-for garment can last 2-3 seasons even for active children. Signs it's time to replace: thinning fabric at knees or elbows, very faded colours, zips or buttons that no longer work.

Lozan Fashion collections are created for durability — quality materials that withstand frequent washing without losing shape or colour.
